Yitong Zhang and Anita Sarkezi’s collaboration is based on a conceptual and intuitive interpretation of the postcolonial role of silver mining. Their collaborative work reconsiders material language and symbolism of objects by exploring contemporary craft through textile and metal as two media in dialogue.

The tapestry is woven with silver-plated metal and silk threads to feature the traditional image of a George-era candlestick while retaining its original functionality, creating a 2.5-dimensional space between their physical presence. The continuously dripping candle wax forms a visual echo with irregularly pulled silk threads, implying the random variables within a controllable space. This work aims to give the audience an imaginative space to engage in the narrative dialogue between objects.
